The Next Step for Cancer Survivors
We can help you rebuild your endurance and stamina.
Our goal is to develop an individualized program that improves your energy and strength allowing you to do every day activities with more ease and less fatigue.
Overcoming Fatigue. Rebuilding Endurance
One of the most common side effects of treating cancer is fatigue. cancer fatigue is different than ordinary tiredness. With cancer fatigue you can feel tired despite a good night’s rest. This loss in stamina and endurance can make simple activities such as concentrating or walking to the mailbox challenging.
Your program begins with a comprehensive evaluation of your strength, endurance, range of motion, fatigue and pain levels. Our therapist will also assess for any unique physical impairments that may have developed from the cancer and its treatment. We will then develop and guide you through an individualized program tailored to meet your personal goals.
Our cancer Survivors program will last 4-12 weeks as needed and includes the following:
- Stretching and range of motion exercises
- Gradual strengthening
- Gradual cardiovascular reconditioning
- Education in the modification of daily
- Routines to self manage fatigue
Once you have completed the program, you can continue independently at home, at a local health club, at one of our offices, or at one of the exercise programs offered at the cancer center.
Most insurances that cover physical therapy should cover this program. It is important to talk with your insurance company to determine your coverage levels. We are happy to assist you in learning more about this program and any financial concerns you may have.
Contact your health care provider to discuss a referral for physical therapy if you are having any of these issues. If your insurance does not require a physician referral, you may contact us directly. Call our Burien (206) 242-5186 office to schedule your initial evaluation.
